Politische und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe ist für viele Menschen in Deutschland und anderen Ländern noch keine Selbstverständlichkeit: Seit Jahrzehnten leben zahlreiche Menschen in Deutschland oder sind hier geboren worden, ohne ein Wahlrecht zu haben, weil sie nicht über die deutsche Staatsangehörigkeit verfügen. Die aktuell geplante Reform des Staatsangehörigkeitsrechts sieht neben einigen Verbesserungen zahlreiche Verschärfungen vor, die auch in Zukunft die Situation nicht nachhaltig verbessern werden. Das gibt uns einen Anlass, um über politische Teilhabe im internationalen Kontext zu sprechen und gemeinsame Strategien zu diskutieren, wie Partizipation gestärkt werden kann.
In Deutschland setzt sich das Bündnis „Pass(t) uns allen“ für ein gerechtes Staatsangehörigkeits-, Einbürgerungs-, und Wahlrecht ein. In Italien macht sich der Verein “IParticipate” seit vielen Jahren dafür stark, dass Jugendliche mit Migrationsgeschichte einen leichteren Zugang zu ihren demokratischen Rechten bekommen. In Slowenien gibt es für Drittstaatsangehörige der Europäischen Union immerhin schon ein kommunales Wahlrecht. In den USA fordern undokumentierte Jugendliche, die DREAMers, seit 2010 ihr Recht auf Rechte ein. Gemeinsam mit Katja Utrosa von dem Verein Kulturno drustvo Gmajna, Sonila Tafili von IParticipate, Christina Antonakos-Wallace – der Regisseurin des Filmes FROM HERE und Olga Gerstenberger vom Bündnis „Pass(t) uns allen“ möchten wir über die unterschiedlichen Ausgangsbedingungen, Erfolge und wie wir voneinander lernen können, diskutieren.
Die Veranstaltung findet in gemeinsamer Kooperation mit dem Bündnis Pass(t) uns allen, With Wings and Roots e.V. und dem Berliner Dachverband für Migrant*innenorganisationen moveGLOBAL e.V. im Rahmen des EU-Projekts „Empowering Migrant Voices on Integration and Inclusion Policies (EMVI)“ statt.
Das Gespräch findet in englischer Sprache statt und der anschließende Film ist auf Deutsch und Englisch, mit jeweils deutschen und englischen Untertiteln. Eintritt auf Spendenbasis

Political and social participation is not yet a reality for many people in Germany and other countries: For decades, many have lived in Germany or were born here without having the right to vote because they do not have German citizenship. In addition to some improvements, the currently planned reform of the citizenship law provides for numerous tightening measures that will not improve the situation in the long term. This gives us an opportunity to talk about political participation in an international context and to discuss joint strategies on how participation can be strengthened.
In Germany, the alliance Pass(t) uns allen is campaigning for fair citizenship, naturalization and voting rights. In Italy, the association „IPARTICIPATE“ has been working for many years to give young people from migrant family’s easier access to their democratic rights. In Slovenia, third-country nationals from the European Union already have the right to vote in local elections. In the USA, undocumented youth, the DREAMers, have been demanding their right to rights since 2010. Together with Katja Utrosa from the association Kulturno drustvo Gmajna, Sonila Tafili from IParticipate, Christina Antonakos-Wallace – the director of the film FROM HERE and Olga Gerstenberger from the alliance „Pass(t) uns allen“ we would like to discuss the different starting conditions, what has been achieved so far and how we can learn from each other.
The event takes place in cooperation with the alliance Pass(t) uns allen and the Berlin-based umbrella organisation for migrant organisations moveGLOBAL e.V. as part of the EU project „Empowering Migrant Voices on Integration and Inclusion Policies (EMVI)“.
The talk will be in English and the film that follows will be in German and English, with German and English subtitles.
